painted papier mache
This painted papier mache case is a particularly fine example. It depicts Lismore Castle, the Irish home of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1753.

This case may have been produced as a special commission and, although it is not possible to attribute the painter, the letters ‘J &B’ can be seen in the lower right-hand corner. Given the quality of the painting, this may stand for Jennens & Bettridge.
