One side depicts two carp in a river with black lacquer ground with kinpun, ao-kinpun and gold hirame, decorated in gold, aokin and colored hiramaki-e and takamaki-e with encrustations of shell and other materials. The reverse depicts a landscape with similar decoration. It is inscribed 無銘  and dates from 1890, and measures 107 x 68 x 13  mm.

The case was a bequest by Charles Goddard Weld to the Museum on 7 December 1911.
