russian cloisonne enamel

This beautiful Russian silver and enamel six-colour cloisonné enamel case was listed by the seller as a 'cigarette or a card case'. It consists of two parts: a case with a hinged lid and a notepad with a pencil closure.

Its dimensions (3 by 4 inches), the addition of the notepad, and the narrowness of the case itself all point to it being a combined card case and aide memoire.

It was made by Antip Kuzmichev of Moscow who also also sold work through Tiffany & Co, New York. The case is hallmarked 'AK 1898' and was sold by a London dealer for £1,250.
