This gem-set platinum and chalcedony card case case is attributed to Cartier, Paris,
c. 1905. The clasp and two hinges are each set with rose-cut diamonds, emeralds and
sapphires; it also comes with its fitted red leather case bearing traces of a Cartier
label.
What makes this case extra special is that it is from The Collection of H.R.H.
The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon.
It was auctioned at Christie's on 14 June. Like most of the lots in this sale, it
far-exceeded its estimate of £2,000 to £3,000, reaching a hammer price of £10,000.
