This red-stained carved ivory case is decorated with finely carved cameos depicting on one side, a nobleman on horse back and, on the other, two hounds sitting by a tree with a hare leaping above. Ivory was stained red in both China and Erbach in Germany, and the cameos are typically European in style (the image below shows a brooch produced in Erbach and attributed to the Kehrer workshop). However, some experts have suggested a Chinese origin, so perhaps the case was made in China copying a European style. The case was purchased in Berlin and is from the collection of Wladimir Herman.

THIS fine red-stained ivory is decorated with applied ivory carvings reminiscent of the ivory carving produced in erbach in germany
