chinese silk

This Chinese card case dates from the late Qing Dynasty (late 19th century). It consists of two card boxes, one of which fits inside the other. The two parts of the case are covered in silk and the outer sleeve has been richly and finely embroidered with flowers and foliage; both sides of the outer case also depict the Chinese character for longevity: one side embroidered using silver thread and the other using gold thread. The case measures 120mm x 70mm.

This fine case forms part of the collection of Jennings Ku. You can find out about the exhibition of Mr Ku’s collection by clicking here.
